Dental Fillings

At Crown Dentistry, we understand that finding a cavity can be a very unpleasant experience. Our expertly done dental fillings ensure your treatment will be as efficient and effective as possible, allowing you to return to your daily life as soon as possible.

What are Dental Fillings?

Dental fillings can treat minor to moderate tooth damage, usually caused by fractures or decay. Fillings restore a tooth's shape and function when it develops a crack or cavity. This process involves removing any decayed, damaged, or broken parts of the tooth. The affected area is cleaned, and the cavity is then filled with a BPA-free composite resin. Fillings are essential for maintaining oral health because they prevent further decay. The doctor’s diagnosis, the extent of the decay, and the location of the cavity will determine if you need a filling or other type of restoration.

Signs You Might Need a Filling in Your Teeth

  1. Tooth Sensitivity: If your teeth feel sensitive to hot, cold, sweet foods or drinks or when you drink very acidic or bitter beverages, this may be a sign that the enamel is compromised and decay has begun.
  2. Holes and Pits Visible in Teeth: You may be able to see a dark spot or hole on your tooth. These are likely cavities that need to be cleaned and filled to prevent further damage.
  3. Biting Down Causes Pain: The decay could have reached the dentin, the tissue layer beneath the enamel, or there could be a cracked tooth that requires a filling.
  4. Discoloration: Dark spots on the tooth or internal discoloration can indicate decay.
  5. Broken or Chipped Teeth: Fillings can restore the shape and size of a chipped or cracked tooth. They also help protect the remaining tooth and fill in the gaps.
  6. Damage to Previous Fillings: Over time, existing fillings may wear out, crack, or fall off. If you notice any changes in texture or shape, you may need to replace a filling; this will protect your tooth from further damage or decay.
  7. Food Sticking Between Teeth: Bits of food that get stuck between teeth may indicate the beginning of a cavity.

We use comprehensive diagnostic methods to detect these problems early. We can pinpoint problems early with our detailed examinations, which may include laser fluorescence and digital imaging. Fillings are a great way to maintain

The Filling Process

Our filling process is designed to be thorough, gentle, and highly effective, ensuring that each step is performed with your comfort and dental health as our highest priorities. Here’s how we handle the process from start to finish:

  1. Consultation and Examination: Each treatment begins with an in-depth consultation by Dr. Chan or another one of our dental professionals. We use advanced diagnostic tools such as digital X-rays to assess decay accurately and customize your treatment.
  2. Preparation for the Tooth: To ensure that the work done on the tooth is not painful, we use a local anesthetic to numb the area surrounding the affected tooth. The doctor carefully removes any decay and weakened tooth structure using precision instruments designed to be safe and effective.
  3. Tooth Isolation: An elastic dam may be used to isolate the tooth from saliva and keep it dry during treatment to ensure that the filling material adheres well and prevents contamination.
  4. Filling Materials: We use the highest quality filling material, which is a BPA-free, tooth-colored, composite resin. This ensures that the filling seamlessly blends into your natural tooth, looking as if nothing ever happened!
  5. Filling Position: Your tooth is then filled where the decay was cleaned out, using the material of choice. The material is then precisely layered and hardened with a special curing light to reinforce the tooth's structure.
  6. Polishing and Finishing: The filling is polished to a smooth, lustrous finish, restoring the function of your tooth and improving its appearance.
  7. Bite Check and Adjustments: We will adjust your teeth to ensure the new filling perfectly aligns with your natural teeth.
  8. After-Procedure Care: Our team provides detailed instructions on managing any temporary sensitivity and ensures that your filling will last as long as possible. After treatment, our team is available to answer any questions or concerns.
